Overall enrollment in colleges and universities may have declined in recent years, but enrollment in online education programs continues to trend upward. According to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, roughly 17.9 million students were enrolled at postsecondary institutions in the fall of 2019, falling below 18 million for the first time in a decade.
